Dr. Madeleine Mant

Dr. Madeleine Mant is a Banting Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Archaeology at Memorial University. Her research is an interdisciplinary investigation of individuals’ embodied interactions with health, disease, and the biomedical system as recorded in primary documents such as hospital admission records and human skeletal remains. Her work is motivated by a desire to understand what effects chronic marginalizing pressures such as low socioeconomic status, geographic isolation, and gender have on human healthstates throughout the lifecourse. These historical lessons provide critical biocultural context to contemporary health issues and amplify the voices of previously silenced individuals.
