Jennifer Muller is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology, Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York. Dr. Muller is a bioarchaeologist who focuses on the biological impacts of impoverishment and inequality in historical African diasporic populations and among the institutionalized poor. She has also been involved in several projects aimed at protecting the sacred spaces of the poor. Dr. Muller completed her Master’s thesis on the Monroe County Poorhouse, Rochester, New York. She recently conducted bioarchaeological research on the Erie County Poorhouse, Buffalo, New York, which focused on understanding the lives of children in the poorhouse, particularly those considered disabled.
